Oracle Database 12c (12.1.0.1.0) : First Look (Vanilla Installation)

On June 27, 2013 Oracle released the so-called "Cloud Database" 12c version 12.1.0.1.0.

This version offers multi-tenant architecture for databases allowing you to consolidate multiple databases into one using : Container Database and Pluggable Database concepts.

Here is a first look at Oracle Database 12c (12.1.0.1.0) where a vanilla installation was attempted with no tweaks.

Operating System : Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.4 (x86_64) - 2.6.18-164.el5

You can download the Oracle Database 12c software from OTN or from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud

Once you invoke the OUI using runInstaller from the staged location you can follow the screens below.

glibc version expected is higher than what is available on RHEL 5.4. But I ignored the warning.

Oracle Net Configuration Assistant reported a failure but after clicking the "Retry" button it worked fine.

Its play time now.
